The Sharing Place
    January 25, 2021

The Sharing Place, a program of the The Foundation for Lutheran Child and Family Services, is a material assistance program and TEFAP participant providing free food to families in need. Located inside the Lawrence Education and Community Center (LECC) at 6501 Sunnyside Road (enter through Door 5), The Sharing Place is staffed by volunteers recruited from the community and local church congregations.

WHO DOES THE SHARING PLACE SERVE?

The Sharing Place serves individuals and families of all ages who are considered to be living below the poverty line and those with immediate need in the following Marion and Hancock County zip codes: 46055, 46216, 46218, 46219, 46220, 46226, 46235, 46236, 46249, 46250, and 46256.

Clients are eligible to receive free food two times a month. Food services do not require a referral but do require "proof of residency" at every visit (for example a piece of mail from the last 60 days with current address).

    WHERE DO CONTRIBUTED DOLLARS GO?

Through several local partnerships, cash donations are used to purchase low cost food and pay the basic day to day necessities it takes to keep the food pantry going. In addition to donations, The Sharing Place is able to purchase low priced food from Gleaners. Also, Gleaners provides USDA certified product every month. Twice a month, The Sharing Place is able to shop at Midwest Food Bank where all food items are free to the food pantry.

    WHO OPERATES THE SHARING PLACE?

The Sharing Place is supported by local businesses, and individual donors, and volunteers. Individuals can serve in multiple capacities. To get more information about volunteering at The Sharing Place, contact Kathy Dalla Costa at (317) 760-0420 or sharingplace@lutheranfamily.org.
